CTA Open 2014

CTA Open

Well, the week has been and gone! Wow! How time flies when you’re having fun!

Thank you to all of the competitors who entered and played their hearts out. As always, there was a fine display of talent right from the 8U category through to the Men’s and Ladies Categories. Particular thanks to everyone for being so well mannered and polite throughout the tournament. Thank you to Gill Andersson for running the Open smoothly. Look forward to 2015, we’ll have you back. . .

Results in no particular order. . .

14U Boys

A good turn out this year with a draw of 16 players. The final was a hard fought match between Cameron Waller and Edward Tandy. Tie Break in the first set of the final. Cam then sadly had to retire in the second set after taking the first 7-6 (4) with a Hamstring injury! Edward Tandy therefore claimed the 14U Boys winners prize. We wish Cam a speedy recovery and Ed all the best in his next tournament.

Sam Flower won the 14U consolation round. Congratulations Sam.

12U Boys

Another good turn out and some hard fought matches all the way through. the final between Yusuf Khan and Toby Bloomfield came down to a 6-4, 6-0 win in Toby’s favour. Congratulations to Toby for the win. Some exceptional play from both lads. Well done.

16U Boys

A healthy draw again. The final was between Alex Watt and Cam Waller. Bearing in mind Cam is 12 (nearly 13) he fought well against a hard hitting Alex. Alex managed to secure the win 6-2, 6-4. A great match to watch. Well done boys. A good effort from both sides and an inspiration to the younger kids watching, too.

18u Boys

Alex Watt and Cam Millar, this time were in the final on Friday. Some brilliant points played and great attitudes displayed by both of them. Smiling as they came off court and very appreciative. A great testament. Congratulations to Alex once again on the win.

Ladies Singles

The first time the Ladies have had the opportunity to play in the Open. A small draw, but nonetheless a good display of tennis. Crowboroughs own Amanda Thompson managed to secure the win with no losses. Congratulations to Amanda. Well played all ladies. We will make the draw bigger and better in 2015.

Men’s Singles

The Men’s singles event was also a first – well for about 16 years – in the CTA Open. A good show of support and some talented players turned out. Joey De La Nougerede and Jason Hartnoll battled it out in the final. The first set was a close run thing with Joey edging Jason 7-5. Then taking the second set 6-3. Quality tennis played by both players. We look forward to making this a permanent fixture in the Open and a bigger fixture in 2015.

Ladies Doubles

Somewhat a fun side of the tournament. Three sets of ladies entered the draw and played each other. Amanda Thmopson with Di Greasley managed to steal the victory over Jane and Claire and Kath and Margaret to claim the Ladies Doubles trophy. Well done ladies and thank you for making it fun and worth running. Another first for the Open…

8U and 10U Category finalist and winners will be added shortly, as soon as I get the details from our referee Gill.

The Open will be bigger and better next year. Hope to see you all again in 2015. Please leave some feedback for me by e-mailing aj@ctasussex.co.uk – I would appreciate a few comments on what you thought.

Thank you
